MAMA Doing Good
Barbie and I had the rare privilege of meeting with the First Lady of Kenya, and we didn’t even have to go to Kenya. Rachel Ruto, the First Lady, was hosted recently by the Branch Church in Farmers Branch, Texas. Chris and Tara Seidman, who minister there, invited us to meet her. In 1971, the Branch Church was instrumental in the launch of Christian Relief Fund.
First Lady Ruto is a believer in Jesus and is very concerned about helping the poor of her country. Ruto has launched a program called “Mama Doing Good.” After seeing people who didn’t even have shoes to wear, she was touched in her heart to find a new pathway for poor women in her country. Mama Doing Good teaches entrepreneurship to poor women so they can get out of the cycle of poverty and create self-sustaining lifestyles. Christian Relief Fund was able to financially participate with this empowering endeavor.
Barbie and I were able to discuss with the First Lady about how we might be able to partner together. She was very enthusiastic about the way we help in Kenya. We talked about the future of our water well drilling and how it might help some of these mothers who really need a break. It’s so difficult to move forward in your life without clean water.
I’m not sure where this meeting will take us and how it might spur new efforts or partnerships. But I am honored and blessed to meet with the First Lady of Kenya.
