It was nearly noon. But no one was awake. The family was still asleep since they hadn’t eaten in days. That’s how Amos Ireri, our CRF director in Kitale, found the Wafula family. The Wafulas were hungry and simply didn’t have any food. Mary, the oldest daughter, told the story of their sadness and pain.

The father of the family was under police custody. And the mother simply couldn’t take care of the family by herself. So she had withdrawn from nearly everyone. The children were no longer attending school regularly because of a lack of school fees, a lack of uniforms, and a lack of books. That’s when CRF entered the Wafula family.

Through sponsorship from Christian Relief Fund, the children received complete uniforms, beddings, and food. Mary was filled with so much joy that she had to leave Amos, go inside, and cry tears of joy. But when she returned, there couldn’t have been a more cheerful girl on earth. Even her mother opened up and started  talking. What did they talk about? Hope. There is now a restoration of hope in the family because of child sponsorship.

I love the story of the Wafulas. And it happens over and over again where a child or a family gets a break through the sponsorship of a child.
